Responsibilities

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
• Prepare estimates and formal bids for asphalt projects.
• Manage and maintain working documents for estimate calculations including accurate information on prices from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Work closely with field superintendents, engineers and corporate departments to determine cost components to provide timely and accurate bids.
• Review bid requirements thoroughly, show creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing, and submit 100% of bids and budgets by the required deadlines.
• Complete project engineering activities from successful low bid to complete project close-out.
• Monitor job cost data on projects and adjust bid procedures as appropriate.
• Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support the overall construction schedule.
• Provide technical support for the construction effort including participation in construction planning and design, interpretation of design, application of construction methods, and resolution of design conflicts
• Develop, implement, and administer project engineering procedures and other work controlling documents.
• Represent the company, department, and/or project during client and project management meetings.
• Interface with all departments as required to resolve problems and ensure quality of construction.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Knowledge Requirements / Skills

• Prior experience in asphalt estimating and/or project engineering in public and private bid environments required. 
• Civil Engineering or construction related degree, or extensive relevant experience is required.  Candidate must demonstrate understanding of construction contracts and terminology, as well as estimating strategies and techniques.
• Proficiency in HCSS software, Viewpoint, and Microsoft office programs is very desirable.
• Excellent working knowledge of design, procurement, and field processes and their inherent costs and risks is required. Must have a good understanding of schedule techniques and principles and be able to easily read and navigate engineering documentation and project plans.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to work with others as a team
